SUNSHINE STATE GAMES--TABLE TENNIS COMING TO LAKELAND, FL


The Florida Sports Foundation has announced the schedule for the very popular Sunshine State Games 2018. Table Tennis again is one of the premier events being offered. Players from all over the state and beyond are sure to be in attendance for this special championship event.

A new event has been added to the exciting list available to players. The new event will be provided for players who are Age 50 and above with the added bonus of this event being a qualifier for the Florida Senior Games State Championship. Only the first 32 seniors will be registered, so be sure to register as soon as possible to claim your position in the event. This 50+ Age event is not a USATT event, so USATT membership is not required.

LAKELAND TABLE TENNIS ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF ORANGE BLOSSOM SERIES

The Lakeland Table Tennis Association in beautiful Lakeland, Florida has announced a significant expansion of their very popular Florida Orange Blossom Table Tennis Series Tournaments for the 2018 season. Lakeland will host six major USATT sanctioned quality tournaments during the season in the spectacular Table Tennis Series. This is an increase from four tournaments in the series during the past several years. All the two-star sanctioned tournaments will be held at the Simpson Park Community Center in Lakeland, Florida. The tournament will have 24 Butterfly tables available for the exciting, competitive events.

GREAT 2018 SEASON!
Brad Woodington, the President of the Lakeland Table Tennis Association, emphasized the importance of continuing and expanding the series to six high quality tournaments. Athletes will earn Series Points at each of the six Lakeland tournaments, depending on what place they finish in their particular class of competition. Series points are awarded in all classes and players in each class have a real chance to earn series points and compete for the awards to be presented at the end of the 2018 season.

COLOSSAL ROUND ROBIN!
All six tournaments will utilize the popular Colossal Round Robin format, with 11 players in each class during a full tournament. This format allows up to 10 matches during the tournament day against quality opponents. A special pizza, soft drink and bottled water lunch is complimentary to all players.

FRIDAY NIGHT EVENTS!
In addition to the USATT Sanctioned tournament, held on Saturdays beginning at 9:00 a.m., there will also be three extra Friday night events beginning at 6:00 p.m.  The three events include a USSTTA sanctioned tournament (Sandpaper), a SBBTTA sanctioned tournament (44mm Big Ball), and a championship Doubles Tournament. Athletes may enter one, two or all of the Friday night events. The Friday night events will all finish on Friday night with trophies awarded to the top four places.


PRIZES AND TROPHIES!
Over $2100.00 will be available during the fabulous two-day tournaments, with trophies presented to the top four places in each class of competition. Players may join the USATT or purchase a tournament pass to compete in the Saturday Colossal Round Robin. USATT Membership is not required for the three events on Friday night. Players who compete in the USSTTA sandpaper event automatically become a member and those who compete in the SBBTTA (44 mm Big Ball) event also become an automatic member at no cost for membership.

CURRENT TABLE TENNIS NEWS FROM FLORIDA

2018 CLEARWATER SPRING OPEN--April 14, 2018


The Sunrise Table Tennis Club has scheduled a USATT Two-Star Tournament for April, 14, 2018 at the Long Center in Clearwater, Florida. A Giant Round Robin format will be used according to tournament officials. Pizza and drinks will be provided for players for lunch.

Tournament officials need support from local players and others around the state and region to continue to provide quality USATT tournaments. At the time of this report, only 28 players have registered. Support for all local Table Tennis Clubs is important. Without player participation, local clubs may be forced to suspend USATT sanctioned tournaments. Please help support Table Tennis in Florida by attending the local tournaments throughout Florida.

UPDATE ON TOURNAMENT IN LAKELAND, FLORIDA

LAKELAND TOURNAMENT IS FULL WITH WAITING LIST



Brad Woodington, Tournament Director and President of the Lakeland Table Tennis Association has announced that the upcoming Feb. 17th Colossal Round Robin Singles Event is now full with 99 players registered and 10+ players on a Waiting List. There are still openings in all the Friday night events.
